Instead of sending the duo to the nearest pub, this resourceful constable decided to try and negotiate a permanent solution to the lack of camping facilities in the village by approaching the owner of The Demesne Farm and discussing the possibility of sitting a permanent camp site on one of the farms flat, grassy fields.
And so the Demesne Farm Campsite was born! Today the campsite boasts 30 all grass pitches of which 13 have 10amp electricity hook-ups. Dishwashing facilities and a wide range of local attraction information are situated in the blocks which are located on the outskirts of the working farm buildings. Being situated on a working farm gives the visitor the chance to observe the daily goings-on on the farm, meet the farmer ask any questions you want – he’s used to it! Our flock of free-range hens are ever inquisitive and a big favourite with visitors old and young alike.
The campsite is located around metres from the village centre, although you’d never realize it as the place has a tranquility all of its own. This central location means that you are never very far from local shops, pubs, tourist information centres and tea-rooms meaning walkers and cyclists following the Pennine Way or the Reiver Coast to Coast routes have somewhere to fuel up on their doorstep.
Dogs are welcome on the site but we would ask all owners to be responsible and in control of their pets at all time.

In addition, there is a small selection of privately owned campsites throughout the National Park, but it’s my recommendation that you opt for the Camping In The Forest sites to experience the unique New Forest atmosphere first hand! The Camping In The Forest campsites are set in totally natural surroundings and it’s not uncommon to find yourself sharing a pitch with the New Forest ponies , or even the odd deer! Facilities and amenities do differ between the New Forest caravan parks and campsites, and it’s very important to note that not all sites have toilet and shower facilities.
In these cases a chemical toilet of some kind is required for you to be able to stay on the campsite. Also, only a few of the campsites have electrical hook-up options and not all sites permit dogs. Clicking through to any of the New Forest caravan park and campsite pages listed below will give you the precise details of that site.
